FanFlyer is the new generation of flying machines that are designed to fit in a parking space, levitate straight up upon take-off, and cruise at 80 MPH for 150 miles and all with a cruising experience much like riding an airborne motorcycle.

A New Way to Fly: The FanFlyer

The FanFlyer is the first of its kind. Our team is developing the special model Etana, a personal aircraft that can fit in a parking space and take off straight up. With a gasoline engine and a hybrid electric drive, the Etana hits a sweet spot between two extremes. We’re designing for over an hour of endurance and cruising speeds at 80 MPH at up to 10,000 feet of elevation. With the lightweight electric drive design and powertrain landing is as simple and comfortable as takeoff. The FanFlyer Etana model is specially designed for home and recreational use. On this machine, you are able to go anywhere!

Meet Jim Corning.


“My professional life revolves around aviation, energy, and engineering. As an MIT alumni with a background in Mechanical Engineering, I’ve been in the aviation, energy, and engineering space working around and flying aircraft since 1985. I have logged countless hours working on the F-111 and F-16 flight test instruments, Pratt & Whitney radial engine crankshafts, PT6 engine air conditioning drives, built fiberglass parts to improve OH-6 helicopter oil cooling, done stress analysis on engine nacelles and helicopter blades, and more fun with things that move fast! Prior to The FanFlyer, I started and still operate several companies to assist the military and aviation industry. My achievements with those organizations include designing ballistic armor for AK-47 protection, helicopter armor for the Department of State Air Wing, and modern armored seats for Hueys and Bell 412s. From there, I wanted a different challenge, so I dreamt up this crazy idea that wound up becoming what you see here, the FanFlyer.”

What is the FanFlyer’s Status?

 

The FanFlyer is in the prototype phase. Currently, we have built a ⅓ scale flying prototype of the aircraft and are working on a full-scale aircraft for hover testing this summer. Our ability to produce a fully functional, safe, and tested aircraft and begin full-scale production and distribution is dependent on our FanFlyer fans- just like you!

What is FanFlyer?

What’s unique about the FanFlyer against other aircraft or planes?

Learning to fly and owning your own aircraft is extremely expensive and complicated. Flight training alone can cost around $10,000. Add in the average cost of an ultralight, single-engine plane and you’re looking at almost $100,000 plus annual storage fees and maintenance- owning a personal aircraft is an endeavor on its own. With FanFlyer, we have designed the Etana model to be affordable and sized to be no larger than a mid-size SUV that comfortably fits in your garage or a typical parking space!

What other personal flight options are available?

Personal flight options besides planes and helicopters are nothing new. Jetpacks, gliders (sailplanes), electric ultralight aircraft, and wingsuits have been around since the early 1990s. The issue with these is that they have limited flight time, are extremely expensive ($150,000-$1,000,000), sometimes not even available to the public, unable to ascend, and oftentimes rely solely on jumping or descending. The FanFlyer solves all of those issues and is fully capable of 80 MPH flight, can ascend and descend at the pilot’s will, has over an hour of flight endurance, can take off and land vertically, and will be priced for public consumption.

Why create The FanFlyer now?

There has never been a better time in history to design and build the FanFlyer. Today’s technological achievements in the fields of aviation and mechanical engineering have made FanFlyer’s design possible. Advances in electric powertrains, carbon fiber, and major breakthroughs in flight controls and computer technology have all made the FanFlyer extremely stable, safe, and fun to fly!

Where can you take The FanFlyer?

The FanFlyer Etana model is specially designed for home and recreational use. Imagine sightseeing, commuting to work, or picking up your weekly groceries by air! Because of the Etana’s compact size, you will be able to take off and land your craft in any normal sized parking space. And with its flight time endurance and 10,000 foot elevation limit, we’re sure you can figure out the limitless options you’ll have for weekend adventuring!

Can I get The FanFlyer now?

The team at FanFlyer has been working on the Etana model for several years now and will have the model ready for release in 2019. We are hard at work completing the final stages of ground tests on our full-scale test rig. We are making safety, noise, and performance adjustments to prepare for a formal public release in 2019.
